Apple will release iPhone 5 in 2012 – What can you expect?

The iphone 4S has been selling in the millions. But, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t millions of people who are actually quite disappointed or even irked at what the iPhone 4S has to offer. Many were actually quite shocked that Apple would essentially rebrand the iPhone 4 and present it to the iPhone 4S, as both phones had the same exact design. Though the iPhone 4S had a faster processor, IOS5 and a pretty cool virtual assistant in Siri, there were many who were still not satisfied with what the iPhone 4S had to offer. Some even joked around that Apple had simply stuck a “S” sticker on the iPhone 4. Even though the iPhone 4S has been a hit in terms of sales, there are millions and millions of iPhone 4 users who skipped on the upgrade, to obviously upgrade to the iPhone 5 instead of the iPhone 4S. In the sections below, we will go over the most important new features that are expected in the iPhone 5.

iPhone 5 – Expected Specs and features

iPhone 5 to get 4G LTE speeds

3G is fast becoming history, with 4G HSPA and 4G LTE networks replacing 3G at an alarming rate. 4G LTE speeds can result in insane download speeds of up to 30Mbps which makes 3G look like a snail crossing the road. So, it is only obvious that Apple will or should include 4G LTE support in the iPhone 5. Some rumors seem to suggest that Apple actually tried to include 4G LTE support in the iPhone 4S although they just couldn’t do so because the LTE chips were just too big for a 3.5 inch iPhone. So, this could essentially mean that the iPhone 5 will get a larger screen. You can read more about the probable iPhone 5 screen size in the passage below.

Will the iPhone 5 screen remain at 3.5 inches or will it be enlarged to a 4 or 4.3 inch screen?

This question is quite a teaser as there are so many things that could affect the screen size of the iPhone 5, apart from the space required to accommodate large LTE chips. To start things off, you must remember that Steve Jobs was very insistent about the iPhone’s screen size being no bigger than 3.5 inches, measured diagonally of course.Steve Jobs was so supportive about a 3.5 inch screen because he thought it was the optimal size for a phone. Jobs was also very adamant about the 3.5 inch screen as he felt that larger screens would result in less battery life. Compromised battery life just didn’t fit into Job’s idea of a cell phone as all of Apple products have been known for their exceptional battery life.

The biggest hurdle for Apple to overcome, if it wants to use a larger screen on the iPhone 5 is that it has to figure out a way to keep pixel density at about 336 pixels per square inch (the famous retina display), if the iPhone 5 screen is going to be at least of the same resolution as the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S, both of which have retina display. Considering that retina display is very difficult to implement on a screen that is larger than 3.5 inches, there is actually a very good chance that the iPhone 5 will retain the same 3.5 inch display that was featured in the iPhone, iPhone 3G, 3GS, iPhone 4 and 4S.

What will be the release date of the iPhone 5?

This is another tricky question to be answered as Apple usually never hints at release dates of its products. So, we pretty much have to guess at a probable release date. There are some who suggest that the iPhone 5 will be released in June of 2012. But, what people fail to understand is that the summer release dates at Apple have traditionally been reserved for the iPad models. With several rumors suggesting that the iPad 3 has entered production stage, it is very likely that the iPhone 5 will not be released in June or July of 2012, along with the release of the iPad 3.

Quite recently, we read some very interesting rumors or assumptions that suggested that the iPhone 5 will be released on the first death anniversary of Steve Jobs, who passed away on October 5, 2011. We definitely think that October 5, 2012 is a real possibility as Apple usually reserves the big product launch for the October month, just in time to allow for enough festive mood shopping.

Other interesting specs that might be included in the iPhone 5

While most people are only interested in whether or not the iPhone 5 will have a larger screen and also come with LTE support, there are others who are interested in the processor speed and operating system upgrade as well. There have been a few rumors that have seemed to suggest that the iPhone 5 is going to get a super fast quad core processor, along with a much more sophisticated and easy to use IOS6 But, there are also some who believe that the iPhone 5 will retain the same dual core, A5 processor that has been featured in the iPhone 4S.

Honestly, we think that a quad core processor is overkill for a cell phone. So, it is likely that the iPhone 5 will retain the dual core A5 processor that is featured in the iPhone 4S. Although the iPhone 5′s processor will remain the same as the 4S, we think that the OS will be upgraded to IOS6 that will be able to support extra features such as NFC, 3D camera mode, panoramic camera mode, facial unlocking and wireless data transfer between Apple devices.
